Linacre Alumni at Reach Higher
April 2022
One of the best moments of 2021 was welcoming a grand total of 21 Linacre alumni back to the programme as programme assistants, summer school teachers, workshop leaders, practice interviewers and Phone-a-Friend tutors. It is truly inspirational to see such accomplished young people passing on their knowledge, experience, and passion for learning.
Eve Draycott (2017)
Fourth-year medical student Eve supported our medical applicants throughout the Big Ideas, leading discussions with doctors and helping them navigate the complex application process. She also led the teaching for the UCAT at Stepping Stones. Along with Lois Kankowski, she put together a workshop on how to talk to patients. Anyone who has met Eve or Lois will know that their bedside manner is second-to-none!
Imogen Laycock (2015)
As well as taking on the role of Programme Assistant at Big Ideas, Imogen also led the English Literature teaching at Stepping Stones, sharing her passion for Victorian Poetry and challenging students to think deeply and critically about literature.
Jenny Upton (2016)
The summer schools’ success is a testament to Jenny’s outstanding work as an outstanding Programme Co-ordinator in 2021. She planned and organised all the logistics to perfection (while keeping a cool head in anticipation of her degree results!)
Kayden Xie (2016)
Kayden taught our Biology students during Big Ideas and Stepping Stones. One student said that: “Kayden was brilliant! The sessions were challenging but really interesting and I have learnt so much about different topics within biology. We were encouraged to share our thoughts and develop our ideas […] this will give me more confidence in my university application.”
Many Linacre alumni also returned to teach, host workshops and seminars, do practice interviews and tutor on the Phone-a-Friend programme. A huge thank you to:
