Results from 2014 Reach Higher

So far, the results of the 2014 pilot have been terrific. Our Reach Higher students have already had offers from some of the country’s leading universities. Most are working one-on-one with tutors to prepare for Oxbridge interviews. 87% have applied to Cambridge, Oxford or Imperial College, London.

100% of students strongly agreed that they now felt much more confident about applying to leading universities. 100% said the teaching was very stretching and significantly more challenging than that they receive in their everyday schoolwork. And 100% strongly agreed that they have enjoyed it!

Wales High School in Rotherham saw a fourfold increase in the numbers of students applying for very competitive universities, and said its students were “positively glowing”. Hall Cross in Doncaster said the scheme had “changed students’ lives”, and called our provision “beyond outstanding”.

All of our students come from areas of northern England in the bottom 20% in terms of educational outcomes. For example, 27% of the population in central Doncaster have no formal educational qualifications.

We’ve now had expressions of interest for the 2015 pilot from schools as far apart as Derby in the south and Ashington in the north-east. Places are strictly limited; do get in touch very soon if you are interested in being considered.

Some of our 2014 Linacre students say goodbye to Trinity Hall, Cambridge after a “life-changing” week

I feel inspired. I’m itching to get to university now, and what’s more, it seems so much more achievable. The Linacre Institute has acted as a springboard to help propel us into the best position when applying for top universities, and I’m now determined to get the A2 grades I need to get there.
